Heather has worked with natural childbirth since 1999, first as a consumer and advocate,
then a doula. In 2005, Heather began study for a graduate degree in Midwifery with
The Midwives College of Utah (a MEAC-accredited school). Heather passed the North
America Registry of Midwives board exam and awaits licensure in Vermont and New
Hampshire. Heather has been in the role of primary midwife with supervision since
2009.
Heather’s first child was born with a midwife in a hospital in Bennington, Vermont and
her other three children were born in water and on dry land with midwives at her home in
Danby, Vermont.
During her course of study, Heather has supported and trained with 15 different midwives
in Vermont, New Hampshire and Utah, both in home and birth centers. She has attended
breech and twin planned births at home in Utah, where these are legally acceptable.
(Twins and breeches in Vermont and New Hampshire are not allowed outside of the
hospital). She holds current certifications in CPR for the Professional Rescuer and
neonatal resuscitation.
Heather holds a Baccalaureate degree in Finance from the University of Vermont and
worked for several years as an investment advisor for global firms prior to pursuing an
education in midwifery.
Heather has been the Clinical Dean of the Midwives College of Utah since 2009 and has
been a member of the board of directors since 2005. As clinical dean, she supervises the
clinical aspects of student study remotely across North America and provides clinical
coaching to students and field faculty of the Midwives College of Utah. Heather has
traveled to Alberta, Canada to study the midwifery model and education system there.
Heather has been working with Mary Lawlor at Monadnock Birth Center since January
2010. “I am grateful to be able to serve women and offer the Midwives Model of Care to
families choosing to birth at Monadnock Birth Center. It is a beautiful setting to work in
and I am thrilled to be a part of this important community project.”
